Some listed companies have a director, promoter, or family member matched to a politically exposed person (an MP, MLA, minister, or party office-bearer). StockMagnets surfaces that link where the evidence supports it, and lets you filter for it directly in the screener.
What "connected" actually means here
A connection is a matched link, directorship, shareholding, or family relation, between a company and a politically exposed person, built from parliament and election disclosures, electoral bond records, and corporate filings. Every match carries a confidence score, and the full picture, including which person, which party, and how the link was established, lives on the Political Connections page for that company.
Why this is worth knowing
Not a verdict, a data point
A political connection isn't automatically good or bad for a company. Sometimes it means regulatory tailwinds; sometimes it means governance risk investors would rather know about upfront. Either way, it belongs in your research, not hidden until after you've already bought in.
Full context, one click away
A screener flag only tells you a connection exists. The Political Connections page for that company shows who the person is, their role, the party, and how confident the match is, so you can judge for yourself instead of taking a yes/no flag at face value.
Using it in the screener
Two fields live under the Ownership category in the screener: Has Political Connection (yes/no) and Political Connections (a count, for companies with more than one matched person). Use them on their own to screen a universe in or out, or combine them with valuation and fundamentals, for example to check whether the value stocks on your shortlist happen to carry a political connection worth a closer look.

Common questions
Where does this data come from?
Parliament and election disclosures, electoral bond donation records, and corporate filings (directorships, shareholdings), cross-referenced by name and matched with a confidence score. It is not sourced from rumor or unverified reporting.
Does a connection mean something improper happened?
No. It only means a documented link exists between the company and a politically exposed person. What it means for the business is for you to judge, using the full breakdown on the Political Connections page, not the flag alone.
Why is the count sometimes more than one?
A company can have multiple matched people (e.g. one director and one large shareholder), or the same person connected more than one way. The count reflects distinct people, not distinct records.
Can I see this for a company I already hold?
Yes. Check that company's own page under Political Connections, or use the Political Connections portfolio view to see it across everything you hold at once.
