Why the market moved
Indian markets ended Friday's session on a mixed note, with the NIFTY 50 and SENSEX posting modest gains of 0.51% and 0.42% respectively, even as broader markets came under pressure — the NIFTY Smallcap 100 fell 1.85% and the NIFTY Midcap 100 dropped 0.93%. IT and healthcare stocks provided the main support, with NIFTY IT rising 2.32% and top Nifty 50 gainers including Trent, InterGlobe Aviation, and Infosys, while Capital Goods and Consumer Durables were the weakest sectors. Global markets were broadly weak, with the NASDAQ falling 3.66% and the S&P 500 down 1.53%, weighed down by sharp declines in major technology shares and turbulence in cryptocurrency markets following a large hack on Binance. On the previous session's flows, foreign institutional investors were net sellers at ₹943.60 crore while domestic institutional investors bought ₹1,924.41 crore worth of shares, helping cushion some of the selling pressure.
