Why the market moved
Indian markets closed Friday's session on a positive note, with the NIFTY 50 rising 0.65% and the SENSEX gaining 0.56%, though gains were uneven across the board. The standout story was a powerful rally in IT stocks — NIFTY IT surged 3.92%, driven by strong moves in Tech Mahindra (up 8.08%), Tata Consultancy Services (up 5.36%), and Infosys (up 4.89%), with Q2 earnings results reviving investor interest and the sector logging its biggest weekly gains in 18 years. On the losing side, Consumer Durables, Oil & Gas, and FMCG sectors slipped, with stocks like InterGlobe Aviation, Jio Financial Services, and Nestle India among the notable decliners within the NIFTY 50. Market breadth was nearly balanced at 26 advances versus 24 declines, while foreign institutional investors were net buyers at ₹1,165.92 crore, though domestic institutional investors were net sellers at ₹3,661.28 crore.
